Karlovy Vary Czech Republic

The town of Karlovy Vary belongs to one of the most attractive and most beautiful towns in the Czech Republic. It is worth mentioniting that Karlovy Vary belongs to one of the most often visited Czech towns.

The town has an eventful history. It was founded on the confluence of the Ohře and Teplá rivers in the Czech mountain range (approximately 120 kilometres from Prague) during the reign of Charles IV, the Czech king and Roman emperor, sometime around the year 1349. According to a legend Charles IV himself discovered the Karlovy Vary springs at hunting a deer in the middle of the 14th century. The official evidence of the existence of the town dates back to the year 1370 when Charles IV granted to the town freedoms and rights similar to other royal towns. Moreover the city used the concessions granted to health resorts. Around the 16th century the town experienced a downfall in tourist traffic (mostly due to the Thirty Years´ War) but at the end of the 17th century the town flourished thanks to the inflow of rich aristocratic visitors.
